Terms of engagement
Last updated: October 2026
In short: every engagement starts with a free check-up call and a written proposal. You'll know the scope, price and timeline before anything starts, deliverables are yours once paid, and we never take commission from the agencies, apps or developers we recommend.
This page explains how we work. It's a summary: each engagement is confirmed in a written proposal and agreement, and if anything here differs from your agreement, the agreement applies.
Who we are
DOC Commerce is an ecommerce optimisation consultancy run by Daniel Knight. Contact: hello@doc-commerce.com.
How engagements start
- A free 20-minute check-up call to understand your goals and whether we're the right fit.
- A written proposal setting out scope, deliverables, timeline and price.
- Work starts once the proposal is accepted in writing and any first payment is received.
Fees and payment
- Conversion Audit and DOC Launch: fixed fee, 50% on acceptance and 50% on handover.
- DOC Partner: invoiced monthly in advance, with a three-month minimum term.
- Technical Bridge: day rate, invoiced monthly for the days used.
- Launch Support: quoted to your build timeline and invoiced as set out in the proposal.
- Invoices are payable within 14 days. Prices are shown before VAT, which will be added if it applies.
- Expenses, such as paid tools or travel, are only charged if agreed with you in advance.
Changing or ending an engagement
- After the minimum term, DOC Partner rolls monthly and either side can end it with 30 days' written notice.
- If a fixed-fee project is cancelled after work has started, the first payment is non-refundable and covers the work done to that point.
- Work outside the agreed scope is quoted separately before it starts.
What we need from you
- Timely read-only access to your analytics, ecommerce platform and behaviour tools.
- A named contact who can answer questions and make decisions.
- Delays in access or feedback may move timelines; we'll always tell you if they do.
Confidentiality and data
- Everything you share is treated as confidential and used only for your engagement. We're happy to sign your NDA.
- We ask for read-only access wherever possible and ask you to remove our access when the engagement ends.
- We don't need your customers' personal data to do our work. Where we can see it in your tools, we don't copy or keep it. See our privacy notice.
Ownership of work
Once paid in full, the deliverables we create for you, such as reports, tickets, priority boards and roadmaps, are yours to use as you wish. We keep our general methods, templates and know-how, and we only name you or share your results publicly with your written permission.
Independence
We don't take referral fees or commission from agencies, developers, apps or platforms. Any recommendation is made because it's right for your business.
Results
We size opportunities using your data and our experience, but we can't guarantee specific results, as these depend on your traffic, products, team and market, and on which recommendations are put live.
Liability
We provide advice and recommendations; decisions about what to build and launch remain yours. Our total liability under any engagement is limited to the fees paid for that engagement, and we're not liable for indirect losses such as lost profit. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.
Governing law
These terms and each engagement are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
